I can reset sound card like you do or go into ‘Sounds’ on the Control Panel and switch between 24bit, Hz and 16bit Hz windods vice-versa and it will work again for a while, I even tried setting the priority in task manager to ‘high’ with not much difference.

Monday, September 21, 2: From other forums I’ve poked around at, it seems that most of the issues are with ‘professional’ cards. If i disable the soundcard and enable it again works for a amount of time, and then crashes again. I have gotta say thanks to Richard Durand, not only a top producer, but also a saviour for other EMU users. I had a PCI way back but got rid of it because of the one-side-getting-lost problem. However, keep in mind this is with the e-mu I use the same driver as in Vista but in Windows 7 it crashes.

Also, you should look into the Asus Xonar series.
